Things are going pretty well with breastfeeding. It has been a crazy week taking care of two babies though, wow. The mornings are nice because Oliver sleeps most of the time, then Evan goes down for his afternoon nap around when Oliver wakes up. The hardest part of the day is the later afternoon when they are both awake and want my undivided attention. Every day I find myself counting the minutes until 5:40pm when Josh gets home! I took both boys to Arby's for lunch yesterday, it was nice. :) Oliver slept the whole time and Evan likes the roast beef and especially the curly fries! A lot of people stared at me though, they must think I'm crazy. Also, when you have a newborn, it seems like everyone stares at you and wants to see the baby; so that may have been part of it.
I breastfeed Oliver about 3 or 4 times a day and the rest of the time pump, or pump after feedings. He is doing so much better at draining the breast, which is causing my nipples to be so so so sore, but it's worth it if he's doing it right. I just use a LOT of lanolin, lol. It's kind of sore to the point where I don't want to nurse in the evenings, which I don't anyway because I'm worried that I would get really frustrated with Oliver if he was having trouble. I am not at my best at 3am, especially if I have just been woken up by a wailing baby! I am amazed at how well Oliver is doing with feeding at the breast (not perfect yet, but getting much much better), bottle-feeding, and using a pacifier some of the time. He does so great!
Does breastfeeding make you feel like you don't get to spend as much time with your baby or maybe that's just because I have a toddler that demands all of my attention! Evan has become more and more clingy, and he has the greatest personality... such a happy guy! He has a great sense of humor!
We were at a playdate yesterday with Evan's little best friend, Charlie, and Charlie saw me nursing at their house and he started trying to look under the nursing cover to see the baby. He thought Oliver was the coolest thing he had ever seen! I think he was thinking "Why are you hiding the baby under that sheet?" lol.
