NIP!

Today was the first time ever nursing in public! Well, sort of public... we went to the pediatrician today for Oliver's 2 week check and he weight is up to 8 lbs 10 oz!! WOOHOO!! 0.8 ounces above birthweight! I was beyond happy about that! It looks like this whole nursing and supplementing thing is working great! I hope I don't have to supplement for much longer as my milk continues to come in better. I am still on the Reglan drug and taking "More Milk" supplements from Motherlove. But, Josh was wonderful and got up with Oliver during my shift and let me sleep later this morning which I really needed. The catch is, I didn't get up to pump at 6am... I got up at 8:30am instead, which was way too long of a stretch and I know I'm not supposed to do that but when one has a toddler and a newborn, when do you sleep? They RARELY nap at the same time and then it's only for like 10 minutes!

Well anyway, back to the NIP, so while we were there, Oliver got a little fussy so I got out my awesome new nursing cover contraption that about 6 days ago I was crying about because I thought I would never get to use, and voila! I stuck my leg over the arm of the chair and nursed Oliver in the pedi's office! I couldn't believe it! I never thought i would get to be "that woman" the one who can just take out her breast and nourish her baby. I felt so proud of myself and like part of a special group. I still can't believe it and part of me is waiting for everything to go wrong again, but it felt so good to be able to do that. And Oliver is sleeping soundly now after nursing which makes me think he's not hungry for a supplement of formula and that makes me smile. :)
